There are a lot of bloggers, vloggers and aspiring Internet marketers out there who are trying to make a living by making YouTube videos and enabling ads on them, and maybe you are one of them. Well, that’s not a horrible idea. You can make a little bit of money that way, but to make a full-time income that way would require an insane amount of traffic. It’s just not realistic for most YouTubers to expect to reach that level of popularity.
You need to look at it from a different perspective. You need a better business model.
You Won’t Get Rich By Slapping Ads Up On Your Videos
Yes, go ahead and make your videos. In fact, if you’re good at it, then make a lot of videos and don’t stop improving your skills in that area. Continually push yourself to make better videos every time you click the upload button. But don’t expect to make a lot of money from those video ads, because that’s not where the real money is at. Sure, you could make some money, but you won’t make any kind of life-changing amount of money that way.
Enter: Affiliate Marketing
Though it earned itself something of a back-alley reputation over the years, affiliate marketing has cleaned up its act and gone mainstream, and some experts see it rivaling email marketing and even overshadowing social marketing already. If you’ve been shying away from affiliate marketing over the years because of its slimy reputation, now is the time to take another look.
It’s a legitimate concept: you find quality products or services offering affiliate programs, create high-quality content to attract your target customers and then just connect the dots. The customer gets a valuable product, the company that created the product closes the deal and handles customer service and you get a fat commission. Rinse and repeat.
To make a substantial income, you should create a website or blog, update it regularly, set up a sales funnel with high-value affiliate products and then use your YouTube videos to push free traffic to your landing pages on the blog. The affiliate sales are going to make you a whole lot more money than those puny ad impressions ever will. You could realistically expect to make 10x more money with a fraction of the traffic.
It won’t happen overnight, but if you are producing high-quality content on a consistent basis and promoting that content on a consistent basis, then affiliate marketing with high-ticket products is a much better business model than just using AdSense and other ad programs.
